Graham declines to condemn racist Trump tweets and calls Democratic congresswomen ‘a bunch of communists’
Trump tells American citizens to leave the country because they oppose his policies and Nancy Pelosi and other “sensible democrats” are trying to silenceReps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) and Ilhan Omar (Minn.) because their radical ideas (childish and dangerous) might harm the “democratic” party’s chances of winning elections. Bernie Sanders is treated within the party as a threat rather than a viably sensible alternative voice.
This is not about good or sensible political strategy. It is about profound fear that the ideas being presented by these radicals are gaining some traction and gaining traction because they make sense. The fear factor ramps up every time one of these now infamous liberals says something because so much of what they say makes such good sense in the context of a nation of the people and by the people and for the people. The threat is visceral, what is feared may be lost is the power and the wealth of a relative small minority who have owned both the economic and political systems in the US and used the both in tandem to steal democracy from the people.
In a truly democratic country there would be many viable political parties, this because of the diversity of views that would have to exist in a nation where the great majority of the people were well informed and independently thoughtful.
In the USA, we have but two viable political parties with differences between them that are more cosmetic than real, this because neither offers real alternatives to the system in place, neither offers enough of an alternative to serve as a check against the system operating as it does without necessary adjustments to insure that it is a democratic system that exists to serve the good of the whole.
Two parties alone, neither of which cares at all to scrutinize a system that serves capitalism and capitalists better than it does democracy and the majority of the people, is cause for the diminishment of the meaningfulness of democracy in a state created to be a debating society. We do debate but within very tight limits, the sense of the system as it has come to be hardly discussed, skirmishes mainly about effect but hardly at all about causes because the causes are in the nature of the system itself, broad picture wise, in terms of what it, the system, is set up to create, its most important product inequality in wealth and power.
The “progressive” force in the democratic party is being denounced by republicans and democrats alike for they challenge a center that is a very comfortable place for some and most of those holding power in the democratic party are very comfortable and comfortable because the system works the way it does
Those progressives and every other progressive challenge to the system by highly intelligent and articulate people is a threat to a stability that needs to be shaken and shaken hard if such things as justice, fairness, and the humane treatment of all people are to be achieved. Those fighting so hard to undermine the progressive movement are willing, has been willing to sacrifice justice, fairness, and the humane treatment of all people in order to get what should be seen as an unfair share of wealth and power. Others, they allow, can pay for their comforts in a society in which a great many live with great discomfort.
This two party system does not work for democracy or for the good of the whole.
